I… don’t like people.
Let me explain… I have a problem with crowds, they make me feel quite ill to be honest. Now it’s not a problem at events generally because I tend to stay away from the less intimate troops. Neither was it a problem last year at this event because, let’s be frank, I was safely ensconced in my own little tank. This year however in the role of a spotter I was ready for calling it quits about 20 minutes after the premium early bird crowd had been let through the entry barrier. It was just too much noise and heat and peoples and noise and heat and noise.
I’ll just digress here and mention that folk have thanked me for going to get refreshments as none were provided and it hadn’t been clarified that we were to supply our own and recoup the money. To be totally honest I’d have bitten anyone’s arm off for the chance to get a break out of there even if, y’know, it ended up being a massive diversion to Govan and back to actually buy anything.
Despite the event being bigger than last year there was very little of interest. There were a couple of stand out costumes, a The Flash and Arrow pairing done to a fairly high standard and a small lad dressed as a Generation One Optimus Prime. The later was a magnificent achievement but wholly impractical for navigating around the show floor.
While Barry may have been missing this time round there was Dalek presence. A NSD model done up, not quite in 60’s livery, although close – but slightly incongruous as it didn’t seem to be present for any reason. I wasn’t in the vicinity for long to hear if it could speak, so I’m not sure if it could.
