There was a fair bit of confusion surrounding this event, event parking and why a Ugandan charity was hosting a lunch for families of Scottish Metabolic Disorder sufferers being the biggest head scratchers, but despite the surprise on arrival of sharing the room we’d been given for changing with couple of cosplayer groups the actual hosts PKU were very glad to see us.
With the relatively young ages of some of the kids there was a couple of instances of screaming and tears and refusals to come in through the doors while we were doing the meet and greet of arrivals, but surprisingly despite the restricted space there were only two collisions and everyone was very patient while the photo ops blocked the routes of ingress.
Once the attendees were all sat at their respective tables we were able to retire back upstairs for a lids off. Rony from Starchild had informed us that we were welcome to attend the buffet lunch, but the complexities of de-kitting to an extent to make that possible were impractical.
While I offered to fetch plates of food upstairs for the costumers it’s probably important to stress nobody availed themselves of the offer. You know. Just in case we get lumped into the a formal complaint made by the hotel to the charity in the next few days regarding the state the conference suite was left in by the cosplayers.
After the break we returned downstairs to find a bunch of the kids had obviously dined on pure sugar but luckily they kept to a slightly separate area. We were invited into the dining area for Vader to assist with the raffle draw, unfortunately even with the Ghostbusters and Pottermore crews being drafted in to help this went on for too long and 75% of the troopers had to step back into the atrium because of the heat. That’ll teach Vader to be front and centre.
With the formalities over we hung around to provide any goodbye photos that were required while the cosplayers had their second round of lunches before we returned the pig sty they’d left behind to de-kit ourselves…
